DISCUSSION BOARD

WHO IS ROOT YOGA?

So what’s behind the name and logo?

The word “root” conjures up a myriad of images, idea and meanings for each and every one of us. So what does it mean to Root Yoga Center? Simply put, we are inspired to help people cultivate personal growth, connection and healing through the lessons of yoga. Our goal was to create a space in Denver where you can truly explore your “roots”, so that’s just what we did. Through the powerful practice of yoga, we encourage you to feel into your physical, spiritual and emotional bodies, and thus become better rooted in who you are as an individual. This exercise sheds light on what serves you, what brings you joy, and even helps heal from the inside out – enabling your life to sprout in a healthy and balance way.

The elephant and monkey icons in our logo are based on symbols from Hinduism. This rich and dynamic religion (practiced predominately in India and Nepal) includes the yogic tradition, and worships a large number of personalities or forms that represent a divine spirit or deity. Below is Root Yoga Center’s simplified, “nutshell” version of the complex and varied mythological story and iconographic symbolism of two of our favorite deities.

The Elephant – Ganesha, one of the five prime deities, resides in the first chakra or “root place” and is renowned as the remover of all obstacles. This strong yet gentle figure is hungry for knowledge…especially about himself.

The Monkey – Hanuman is all about devotion – feeling into what you love and having the courage and perseverance to go after it. This inspiring deity reminds us of our innate, unlimited power to create the life we want to live.
